Jason Boyer, FAIA – Founder of Boyer Vertical
Architect as Developer | Design-Led Real Estate | Timeless Communities

Long Form Bio

Jason Boyer, FAIA is an accomplished architect, pioneering real estate developer, licensed contractor, and founder of Boyer Vertical. Known for advancing the Architect as Developer model, he integrates design, development, and construction to deliver timeless, sustainable communities across Arizona.

Jason’s career has consistently defied convention. At 35, he became a Design Principal at a national architectural firm—a rare distinction in a profession where seniority traditionally dictates advancement. In 2012, he launched Jason Boyer Architects, and his debut project, artHAUS—a 25-unit urban infill community in Phoenix—earned a Builder’s Choice & Custom Home Design Grand Award and an AIA Arizona Distinguished Architecture Honor Award. Widely regarded as a model for “missing middle” housing, artHAUS established his reputation as a designer and developer committed to livable density and community-oriented urban design.

In 2020, Jason rebranded his practice as Boyer Vertical, formalizing a vertically integrated platform that unites architecture, development, and construction. Reinforcing this capability, he holds an Arizona KB-1 Dual Commercial and Residential General Contractor’s License, allowing him to deliver projects with complete oversight from concept to completion. His nationally recognized KARMA community exemplifies this approach, merging sustainability, thoughtful site orientation, and modern design into a distinctive residential model.

Beyond practice, Jason is a committed leader and educator. He has served on both the AIA Phoenix Metro Chapter Board and the AIA Arizona Board, contributing to the advancement of the profession. As a long-time member of ULI Arizona’s AIR Local Product Council, he actively engages in adaptive reuse, infill, and revitalization strategies that shape the future of Arizona’s built environment.

Jason also shares his expertise through teaching at Arizona State University’s Design School and as a guest lecturer in the Master of Real Estate Development program, where his leadership in the Architect as Developer discipline continues to guide and inspire the next generation.

In 2022, Jason was elevated to the College of Fellows of the American Institute of Architects (FAIA), one of the profession’s highest honors. His work embodies the belief that architecture should not only shape buildings but also define the business of real estate—creating enduring communities that leave a lasting impact.
